Israeli soldiers (background) stand guard as Palestinian and foreign activists hold a huge Palestinian flag during a protest in the West Bank village of Maasarah, near the biblical town of Bethlehem, on July 17, 2009 against Israel's controversial separation barrier. The barrier is made up of 400 kilometres (260 miles) of concrete walls, fences and closed roads, with 87 percent located inside the Israeli-occupied West Bank, including annexed east Jerusalem, according to UN figures.
